Relying on one’s own abilities brings to surface unique qualities which were laying dormant inside; it introduces the world with new ideas which later becomes examples for others to follow. This is similar to Pakistani drama industry. Without any attention of the authorities concerned and without having hefty budgets, relying on available resources, it has conquered a world of audiences. Pakistani dramas started to emerge on screen during the nineties, today they dominate the screen. The emergence of private T.V channels gave a big boost to Pakistani drama industry. Today, Pakistani dramas are casting a spell on the mind and soul of millions of viewers across the globe. It is, undoubtedly, a big success for writers, directors and actors.

The first and the most important reason of the success of Pakistani drama is its creative content which is based in most of the cases on famous Urdu novels. The content, plot and its relevance to real life issues set Pakistani dramas different from other i.e. Turkish, Indian or any other south Asian competitor. The reason behind best content is that it is derived from pure Urdu literature produced by creative novel and story writers. It is common for observers that dram which is based on pure Urdu literature breaks all records of popularity like Hamsafar based on the novel by Farhat Ishtiaq. Similarly, Mere zaat zar-e-benishan, Zindgi Gulzar hai and Qaid-e-Tanhai are based on best novels of Umera Ahmed.

Pakistani urdu literature is best compared to other regional languages in south Asia. The essence of pure love presented in a story in the backdrop of pure eastern social and family produces a soul stirring impact. So far dramas are produced on the work of some young novelists like Umera Ahmed, Hashim Nadeem and Farhat Ishtiaq to name the few. The reality based Dramas of Ishfaq ahmed containing pious sayings are yet to be reproduced. The work of Bano Qudsiya, Hajra mastoor, Kishor Naheed, Gulam Abbas, intizar hussain and many others also needed to portray in drama serial form.

The second reason of success of Pakistani dramas is the depiction of real life social issues and societal problems in a realistic manner. Directors also deserve credit to avoid putting unnecessary sensationalism in their produce.
The third thing is that the story, script and expression do not lose standards and norms of morality which are crucially important in eastern societies. Obscenity and unnecessary and vulgar dialogues and scenes are not making part of the story.
The last but not the least is the professionalism of directors and actors. Many actors like Fawad khan, Mahira Khan, Urwa Hussain, Marwa Hussain, Faisal Qureshi, Adnana Saddique and Aehsan Khan to name the few have gained fame in the world because of Dramas.

However, there are few negative things which are apparent in some Dramas. For instance, vulgarity has made an integral part of some dramas in addition to this, in some dramas moral and social values of society are deliberately eroded by directors and producers. Social evils of high intensity like divorce and deceive are portrayed as normal affairs. While the pious relation of marriage is given utmost less weight age. Respect of relations is damaged. Such depiction of events would be destructive to society.
In short, from Dhuwan, Alfa Bravo Charlie and Dhop kinare to Hmsafar and Pyare Afzal Pakistani Drama gain strength and popularity. It provided the viewers a best combination of ancient content/story and modern visual/production techniques.
