Worlds' fastest bowler and legendary Pakistani speed star Shoaib Akhtar refused outrightly to take any job offered by PCB. Rather, he offered to contribute voluntarily for the benefit of cricket Pakistan.
It would be right to say that when character, passion, and altruism combined with profession makes a true legend. Shoaib, the veteran pacer also has been stressing youngsters that they should adopt these moral traits and they should focus on to play for Pakistan rather than making money, and that lust for money is the mother of corruption in cricket. He also criticized former cricketers who take jobs in PCB instead of voluntarily contributing to Pakistan cricket.
Indeed, this stance of Shoaib Akhtar will strengthen his reputation as a hero, as many legends’ heroism faded away after their retirement as they didn’t offer their experience selflessly for the development of cricket in Pakistan. Imran Khan is an exception, who is respected because he won the world cup for Pakistan, and he claims that it became the impetus for him to build a cancer hospital for the poor people. Similarly, Shoaib Akhtar despite his rude behavior in the past attributes his success to Pakistan.
He is visionary and emphasis on changing thinking and morality of youngsters. He says that “cricket is part of our culture as our cultures erode our cricket also suffers”. He stresses on lasting changes in cricket culture and moral guidance of youngster. He aspires to have in young cricketers an obsession and insatiable desire to make a heroic contribution to Pakistan cricket. He wants youngsters to put a dramatic impact on the cricket world as he did himself.
