The sports heroes as the ambassador of nation bring respect and recognition to their country. Even after their retirement, they become a source of inspiration for youngsters to do something big in life. That is why great nations acclaim and respect their legends.
But, the situation in Pakistan is totally different. The plight of sportspersons speaks aloud about the attitude of our nation in general and exposes the character of our leaders particular.
Yesterday a video of a former Olympian went viral on social media. In the video, former Hockey Olympian Zahid Shareef put on display all his medals to sell, that he had won during his hockey career.

He said that he has no job and no financial resources to feed his family, so he has decided to sell his medals. He offered Prime Minster of Pakistan and Chief Minister of Punjab to buy his medals. According to him, these medals couldn’t feed him and his family members.
It is lamenting that a sports hero who has been hoisting the flag of Pakistan across the world is leading the life misery. He is going to sell all that he had been considering the asset and pride of his life.
Ironically, the former hockey player mistakenly thinks that his clamoring will manage to bring some relief for him. He doesn’t know whom he wants to sell his pride and honor, does not need these commodities. They are thirsty for the similar thing that you are demanding in return.
As a player, Shareef was aggressive, renowned for his dribbling skills and clinical finishing. Due to his exceptional performance in the Champion trophy, 1988 Pakistan managed to clinch the silver medal. Winning a series against India and most importantly winning Indra Gandhi cup in India are his major achievements.
It is time that our leaders need to think to award this great hero. The need of the hour to establish a system of compensation that no sports hero has to live the life misery afterward. Our heroes are indeed a role model for our youngsters.
